As the world grows more digital, media coverage for sports like the NFL has grown incredibly. Not only can fans watch events on their TV sets, but also stream them onto their mobile devices, either live or using a catch-up option, and stay up to date with developments in their sport of choice. They can also follow events on social media and view news, views, analysis and more on club websites, social media, blogs and more, and even study the NFL lines at online sports betting websites.
Of course, one of the big events in the sporting calendar is the NFL’s Super Bowl. Every city wants to host one. Below is a look at some of the locations where it will take place, and where it could take place, in the next few years, and how it can benefit destinations.
New Orleans, Louisiana
On February 9, 2025, Caesars Superdrome, in New Orleans, Louisiana, will host the greatest one-day sports event on Earth. The home of the New Orleans Saints boasts a flexible seating capacity of more than 73,000, and this will be the eighth time the Super Bowl has taken place at the stadium since New Orleans Saints became an NFL franchise. It will also be the eleventh time New Orleans has hosted a Super Bowl.
Hosting the Super Bowl could generate $500 million for the city, and preparations are already well under way to improve the infrastructure in time for the event. In June 2024, Governor Jeff Landry announced there were plans for 522 projects that would get under way before the Super Bowl. Not only were there practical projects, such as improving roads and walkways, but also beautification projects of some of New Orleans’s spaces.
Santa Clara, California
In 2026, on February 8, the big game will take place at the Levi’s Stadium, in Santa Clara, California. The home of the San Francisco 49ers boasts a capacity of 70,000, which it can expand to 75,00 for some events, including the Super Bowl. This will be the second time the stadium welcomes the event, and the third the wider Bay area does.
Sports tourism supports hotels, restaurants, small businesses and more, giving the local economy a real lift. Super Bowl 50 generated $250 million in economic impact for the region and created thousands of jobs.
Santa Clara is still trying to recovery from the impact of world events in the last few years. Tourism has been an essential part of the recovery process, and it still is. The Super Bowl will bring tens of thousands of visitors to the region, bringing in revenue for Santa Clara.
Inglewood, California
On February 14, 2027, it will be the turn of So-Fi Stadium, Inglewood, California, to host the Super Bowl. The home of the LA Chargers and the LA Rams seats more than 70,000. This is the second time the stadium will host the event, the first having been in 2022.
When the LA Lakers left the city, LA developed a reputation for being rough. Investment left the city, but the investment into the So-Fi stadium in 2014 helped to regenerate the city and put LA’s finances back on the upswing. Last time the stadium held the Super Bowl, the event brought around half a billion dollars for local businesses in Los Angeles. Hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues and retail venues can expect to do well again when the Super Bowl comes to town.
That’s as much as the NFL has told the world about future Super Bowl venues. There is speculation the following might host the event later:
Arlington, Texas
The AT&T Stadium, in Arlington, Texas, is the home of the Dallas Cowboys and has a seating capacity of around 80,000. The stadium cost $1.2 billion to build and last hosted the Super Bowl in 2011. Unfortunately, bad weather and a shortage of seats transformed the affair into a debacle. Although lessons have definitely been learned from the experience, owner Jerry Jones is believed to have ruled out hosting the event again just now, feeling it’s not a fit for them just yet.
Minneapolis, Minnesota
The US Bank Stadium, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is the home of the Minnesota Vikings and has hosted the Super Bowl once, which it did in 2018 The stadium has capacity for around 66,000 people but can be expanded to around 73,000 for big events, including the Super Bowl. Some feel it’s time for another Super Bowl there, but whether that will happen, only the NFL knows.
Nashville, Tennessee
The Tennessee Titans hoping they can bring the Super Bowl to Nashville, Tennessee. They hosted the 2019 NFL draft at the current stadium, but this is as close as the stadium has come to hosting.
Now there is excitement the event could come to the new Nissan Stadium in the next few years. The stadium is set to open in 2027, but NFL rules mean it must have been operating for at least two years before it can host a Super Bowl. The new Nissan Stadium will cover approximately 1.8 million square feet and offer fantastic views for all spectators.
Jacksonville, Florida
Even though Florida has hosted 17 Super Bowls, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ stadium has only been the venue for one of them. This is a stat they’ll be hoping to change within the next decade when they open their new stadium. Construction work begins in 2025, and the next stadium will have a base capacity of 62,000 which they can expand to more than 73,000 for football. The design responds to several major requests from fans, including expansion of the surface areas of some of its concourses, and the stadium itself will create thousands of new jobs.
There are very few sports stadiums in America that don’t want to host the Super Bowl. To host the biggest event in the US sporting calendar is a huge win. Other potential future destinations include the Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, Florida, which is the home of the Miami Dolphins.
